Thanks Seth
God is calling us into a position of surrender - and as we give in to Him and move into deeper intimacy and focus, victory comes. Out of total surrender, power comes.
Love and blessings to you all at In Motion.

This is definitely a journey! I think a big part of this is learning to just be present. Pre-sent yourself and BE THERE. This alone shows an element of confidence, rather than just thinking forward about what we need to do, or thinking past of what we should have done! Presence is a really BIG deal and a real part of confidence.

Confidence is probably a hard one for a lot of people. Even if we have lots of redeemable qualities, there are usually a few insecurities that can rob us from walking in Godly confidence. I think, going along with your honesty bit Saundra, is just owning your limitations. I like to tell jokes to ease situations but I also know that my jokes don't land the same for everybody. It helps when I can admit that upfront, "Hey guys, I am really funny but none of you will be able to tell." Just an example
That takes the power away from the insecurity and lets you operate just as you are AND in confidence.

This is one of my favorite things on a trip - talking with the team members. There is no better way to love them well than listening to their story. If they are not talkative, it is helpful to ask a question that does not have the opportunity for just yes or no...that way you can have insight into their hearts as they put their thoughts into words. By truly listening to their answer, you can find the next step in engaging them. Sometimes all they need is reassurance that you are hearing them so the unending "uh-huh's" play a big part in being focused. I find I do think of the ways I am going to respond so that I am letting them know they are being heard. This might mean repeating back to them what you are hearing them say, maybe a little differently. Good communication skills include being a good listener - which, you are right, takes focus and intentionality. This is where a lot of the impact is hiding on a trip!

Great job Saundra,

The idea of questions to deal with conflict is great. Otherwise you are left with just don't do that etc.

Thanks for all

Definitely a skill! And a skill that requires lots of practice. The more we practice, the easier it gets. Important for listening to people, but, in all reality, something we all probably need to get better at in general. The research proves it --multitasking is NOT effective! Thanks of sharing Saundra!

As someone who doesn't get on many trips either ;) I love hearing the heart level questions because it is so easy to just have the practical mindset about it all.
To be simple though, I want to ask questions to see how far along their Christian journey they are. I also want to know what they thought they would gain from the mission trip. What is making driving them to make this huge financial, time, and comfort bending commitment that we know as a mission trip.
